Carry Prepared. Be Ready to Help.
Evidence-based casualty care training for people who choose to carry responsibility every day.
People who carry every day do so because they want to be prepared — not just for themselves, but for those around them. When serious injuries happen, the first few minutes matter most. Knowing how to respond effectively before professional help arrives can save lives.
If you’re around firearms long enough, you will see someone get shot; whether a negligent discharge or a use of force.
In an active violent incident, First Responders will arrive in 4-10 minutes after the first 911 call. Recent events show us how much can go wrong in that time period.
Tactical Casualty Care is the minimum level of tactical medical training anyone who is around firearms, professionally or personally, should take. The 10-hour course focuses primarily on the Care Under Fire or Direct Threat phase of an event, where both the responder and the injured are still in a dynamic, threatening environment. Learn how to quickly evaluate the injured, focus on what’s most important, manage massive hemorrhage, and stop preventable death with minimal equipment.
Injured can bleed to death from massive hemorrhage in less than five minutes.
How far away is EMS? If medical care arrives after that time, you will watch your loved one, your hunting buddy, or your neighbor bleed to death. You don’t have to. Using minimal equipment and straightforward techniques, you can be the help before help arrives to provide hemorrhage control, address chest injuries, and avoid increased mortality from hypothermia.
What You’ll Learn
- Recognize life-threatening injuries quickly
- Control severe bleeding with confidence
- Understand medical priorities in chaotic situations
- Make calm, informed decisions under stress
- Apply practical casualty care skills when seconds matter
Why This Training Matters for EDC
Everyday carry is about preparation, judgment, and responsibility.
Gear alone is not enough. Medical tools and first aid supplies only work if you know when and how to use them. This training focuses on developing the understanding and decision-making needed to apply skills effectively in real emergencies.
Instructor Perspective
This training is led by Dr. Mike Shertz, a dual boarded Emergency Medicine & EMS physician and former U.S. Army Special Forces Medic.
Mike teaches casualty care from the perspective of real-world medicine: what actually works, what the evidence supports, and how to apply both when conditions are imperfect. The goal is practical competence, not bravado.
You’ll learn the science behind the techniques so you really understand what needs to be done and can do it under stress, as well as the tactics to keep you safe while you treat casualties. Learn the realities of what gunshot wounds do in the body and to the body, and debunk many common myths and urban legends.
